“Women’s Sermons in Mosques” with Hümeyra Dinçer

We continue to talk face to face, listen to each other, learn, experience encounters, and solidarity at the Havle Meet-ups, which Havle Women’s Association will hold for the sixth meeting with the title of “Women’s Sermons in Mosques”.

This work of Hümeyra Dinçer, whom we will host as a guest at our meeting to be held on March 31, 2022, focuses on the sermons given by the preachers of the Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı) for the women’s congregation in mosques. Through these sermons, he examines what the idea of “living a Muslim life” corresponds to in today’s Turkey and how it is conveyed to Muslim women by preachers.

Hümeyra Dinçer completed her master’s degree in Sociology at Boğaziçi University in 2019 with her thesis on the sermons of Diyanet’s female preachers in mosques. She is continuing her Ph.D. program in Sociology at Ibn Haldun University. She has been involved in various projects as a researcher.
